Your wedding day is a day that you will remember forever so making sure all the details are perfect can begin to drive you a little crazy! If you're feeling a little frazzled planning your big day stay with us because we had a chance to ask some questions with one of our favorite event planners Megan Mary Events!
1. Tell us about yourself and your company.
I love coffee, champagne and a good piece of cake! I have also always loved weddings and have known since I was 17 years old that I wanted to work in the events industry. I started as a banquet server for a family owned catering company based out of Hugo, MN and worked my way up to assisting wedding planners in Minneapolis. A little over a year ago I realized that I have a strong entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to own my own business - it only made sense to pursue a business where my passion lies... Weddings.
3. What's your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is seeing the vision a couple has come to life. Every couple has unique ideas and family traditions, it's fun to learn about them and see their personalities shine through on their wedding day. Another part of my job that I love is when the couple is newly married, walking down the aisle to exit the ceremony... You know, when you can see the love radiating between the two of them! It's the start of their life together and I got to help them get there.
4. What's your favorite color palette / color combination at the moment?
My favorite color combination...Purple, purple and more purple! Honestly, I love everything purple. I grew up a Vikings fan and then went to Winona State, it really worked our for me! I love that you can do a dark plum for the fall and winter months and then tone it down with more of a lilac for the spring and summer. The rich colors look stunning with gold (which is really trending right now!) and dark green.
5. Are there any wedding trends you really love or dislike right now?
I absolutely love that wedding dresses are so unique right now, no one wears just a plain white, strapless dress anymore. There are necklines to flatter and suit every woman and the various materials are on point for the wide array of venues to choose from - cathedrals to country clubs, warehouses to wineries and everything in between. Wedding gowns are trending towards swanky cocktails dresses... It allows a bride to feel extra beautiful while showing off her personal style. LOVE that.
Another trend that is fantastic, mismatched bridesmaid dresses. Not every bridesmaid is going to look good in the same dress! It's a great way to show each bridesmaids best asset off and to let her personal style come through.
6. Any tips or advice for couples planning their wedding?
-Enjoy yourselves and remember why you are getting married - LOVE
-Don't put yourself in debt for one day - choose a budget and stick to it.
-Remember that your Mom is just trying to help, and chances are she HAS done this before.
